Downing Drive Surgery
Welcome to Downing Drive Surgery. We serve the area of Evington, Leicester with a population of over 6900 patients and all patients have an allocated named GP. We are a Training Practice and have GP Registrars working at the surgery. GP Registrars are qualified Doctors undertaking further training in General Practice. They are fully supervised by our permanent GPs.
Please see our Practice Leaflet for more details.
If you have symptoms associated with coronavirus including a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change to taste and sense of smell, you are advised to stay at home for 7 days, 14 days for household members and bubble groups. Do not book a GP appointment or attend your GP Practice.
If your symptoms are serious, or get worse, NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need further medical help and advise you what to do.
Only call 111 direct if you cannot go online, or are advised to do so by the online service.
For the latest Covid-19 advice please visit www.nhs.uk/coronavirus.
Please do not attend the surgery unless absolutely necessary. If you are attending the practice, face masks or covering must be worn please. This is to protect other patients and our staff so that we can keep looking after you.
All of our GP appointments are firstly telephone triage appointments and a video or face to face appointment will be organised if required.
The nursing team are doing mainly essential work only during the Leicester lockdown but we are trying to do as much chronic disease review work via telephone/video call as possible. Please be reassured that all high risk patients will be our priority.
We ask that patients are patient with us at this very difficult and complex time. Front line staff are unable to work from home and a good number of them will need to respond to personal or family challenges connected with dealing with COVID-19. So we would please ask that you understand the challenging environment in which we are all working.

Primary Care Networks
As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, the introduction of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) has been implemented. This means that Practices in the same geographical area are to come together to create a PCN and share services to provide equality of these services across a given area. For example, a Practice that has the skilled staff to provide Minor Surgery for their patients can provide this service to all patients within the PCN.
Downing Drive Surgery has teamed up with Humerstone Medical Centre, Johnson's Medical Practice, St Elizabeth's Medical Centre and East Leicester Medical Centre to form Salutem Primary Care Network. This PCN has been approved by NHS England and the Clinical Commissioning Group.
“ENHANCED ACCESS – OCTOBER 2022
GP practices now work in groups called Primary Care Networks. Your practice is in Salutem PCN which comprises 5 practices in the East side of Leicester. They include:
· Downing Drive Surgery
· East Leicester Medical Practice
· Humberstone Medical Centre
· Johnson Medical Practice
· St. Elizabeth Medical Centre
In order to improve access to General Practice services, and promote good health for all the population, from October 2022, GP Practices across the country are being asked to offer more appointments to patients, across the PCN, outside of their current core opening hours of 8am-6:30pm and Salutem Primary Care Network would like to find out more about your views on how best to implement this.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey, on the link below to share your views. Thank you.
