Appointment Information

Appointments

GP appointments are now telephone triage appointments in the first instance and these can be booked on line, mainly on the day but some are also bookable in advance.  We also have minor illness appointments daily and you need to ring the practice to book one of these.  We now have a practice pharmacist who can deal with medication queries.  The Clinician will either be able to sort your problem out on the phone or by video call and will organise a face to face appointment if necessary.

If you are attending the practice, face masks or face coverings must be worn please.

Some of the Nursing team clinic apointments may also be dealt with over the telephone and a face to face appointment arranged where necessary.  This includes the chronic disease reviews via telephone/video call where possible.

Please be reassured that our high risk patients will alwasy be our priority.

Accessing our Practice

For those patients with a disability that requires help to access the building, you are able to telephone the Practice from outside on arrival or press the intercom button if you require any assistance in accessing the building or its services. Staff will be trained in the appropriate way to help with wheelchairs, partially or non-sighted patients, or those with other special needs.

Clinical staff will assist patients attending for appointments including collecting them from the waiting area and escorting them to their consultation as appropriate. Patients benefiting from this will have a major alert message placed on the clinical system record.

Cancellations and Missed appointments

If, before your appointment, you no longer need to see the doctor or nurse, then please ring the practice to let us know. We will then be able to offer your slot to another patient.  This is very important as missed appointments waste valuable surgery time.  By helping us with this you will be helping yourself and other patients to access appointments more easily.  Thank you.

Online

Our practice has been enabled to take online appointment bookings for GP appointments (NB Please do not book Coil check/Fit/Removal & Implants Online). You can also book telephone consultations on line if you feel your problem can be dealt with over the phone.  In order to make use of this facility, you must be registered as a patient with our practice. Only then can you register with this service. You can register with this practice/service by contacting us on 0116 2413801.

Out of Hours Information

If our practice is closed and you have a medical condition that cannot wait until the practice opens, then telephone NHS 111. This is now our Out of Hours contact number.

The new NHS 111 service is now available to all our patients. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones - just dial 111. This service will:

replace the old out-of-hours phone number - you should dial 111 if you need medical advice when the surgery is closed

replace NHS Direct - you should dial 111 if you need health information or advice
help you to access the correct local urgent health care service if you need urgent care, at any time

You can call 111 when you need medcial help fast but it's not a 999 emergency. When you call 111, a trained adviser will ask you questions to find out what's wrong, give you medical advice and direct you to someone who can help you, like an out-of-hours doctor or a community nurse.

NHS 111 uses Type Talk for people who are hard of hearing, and has interpreters available for callers who do not speak English.

You can call 111 from anywhere in England.

When to use it

You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation. Call 111 if:

you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
you don't know who to call or you don't have a GP to call
you need health information or reassurance about what to do next
For less urgent health needs, contact us at the surgery or your local pharmacist in the usual way.

If a health professional has given you a specific phone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, continue to use that number.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.

Alternatively, there are walk-in centres at the Merlyn Vaz Centre, Humberstone Road, Leicester and at Pinfold Gate, Loughborough.

HUBs

There are also 4 HUBs available:  Westcotes Health Centre 8am to 8pm everyday including weekends and Bank Holidays.  Belgrave Health Centre 6.30pm to 10pm Monday to Friday and 12pm to 8pm weekends and Bank Holidays.  Saffron Health Centre 6.30pm to 10pm Monday to Friday and 12pm to 8pm weekends and Bank Holidays. Merlyn Vaz Health and Social Care centre 8am to 8pm everyday - Monday to Sunday. Covid19 Information

If you have symptoms associated with coronavirus including a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change to taste and sense of smell, please do not attend your GP Practice.

If your symptoms are serious, or get worse, NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need further medical help and advise you what to do.

Only call 111 direct if you cannot go online, or are advised to do so by the online service.
