Downing Drive Surgery

Welcome to Downing Drive Surgery. We serve the area of Evington, Leicester with a population of over 6800 patients and all patients have an allocated named GP. We are a Training Practice and have GP Registrars working at the surgery. GP Registrars are qualified Doctors undertaking further training in General Practice. We also have medical students doing placements as part of their medical training.  They are fully supervised by our permanent GPs.

Coronavirus guidance:

If you have symptoms associated with coronavirus including a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change to taste and sense of smell, you are advised to stay at home.

If your symptoms are serious, or get worse, NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need further medical help and advise you what to do.

Only call 111 direct if you cannot go online, or are advised to do so by the online service.

Please do not attend the surgery unless absolutely necessary.  If you are attending the practice, face masks or covering must be worn please.  This is to protect other patients and our staff so that we can keep looking after you.

Most of our GP appointments are firstly telephone triage appointments and a video or face to face appointment will be organised if required. 

Primary Care Networks

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, the introduction of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) has been implemented.  This means that Practices in the same geographical area are to come together to create a PCN and share services to provide equality of these services across a given area.  For example, a Practice that has the skilled staff to provide Minor Surgery for their patients can provide this service to all patients within the PCN.

Downing Drive Surgery has teamed up with 4 other practices and we are called Salutem PCN which comprises 5 practices in the East side of Leicester. They include:

· Humberstone Medical Centre
· Johnson Medical Practice
· St. Elizabeth Medical Centre

In order to improve access to General Practice services and promote good health for all the population, from October 2022, GP Practices across the country are being asked to offer more appointments to patients, across the PCN, outside of their current core opening hours of 8am-6:30pm.

Parkrun Practice

Downing Drive Surgery is a Parkrun practice linking in with the Victoria Park parkrun.  You can join the parkrun family by walking, jogging, running or volunteering or you can simply come and watch – it’s up to you.  5k friendly and enjoyable events are every Saturday morning and 2k junior parkruns are every Sunday morning.  For more information, please see our poster in Reception at the surgery or ask a member of staff.
